Câu tường thuật (nghi vấn)

Câu hỏi tường thuật dùng trật tự từ của câu khẳng định thông thường (chủ ngữ + động từ), KHÔNG dùng trật tự đảo ngữ của câu hỏi trực tiếp. KHÔNG thêm dấu chấm hỏi. Thì lùi như trong câu tường thuật khẳng định.

Cấu trúc

Câu hỏi Wh-

asked + wh-word + subject + verb (NOT auxiliary inversion)

Câu hỏi Yes/No

asked whether / if + subject + verb

Quy tắc then chốt

NO question mark | NO inverted word order | NO 'do/does/did' auxiliary

Câu ví dụ

He asked when the new branch would open.
She asked where the meeting room was.
The client asked whether the delivery had arrived.
The interviewer asked if I had experience with project management.
He asked what time the conference call was scheduled.
She asked how many candidates had applied for the position.
The manager asked why the report had not been submitted.
He asked whether the proposal had been reviewed.
She inquired how long the project would take.
The director asked who had approved the additional expense.

Lỗi phổ biến

She asked me where was the meeting room.

She asked me where the meeting room was.

Câu hỏi tường thuật dùng trật tự chủ ngữ + động từ (không đảo ngữ). Bỏ 'was' khỏi vị trí đảo.

He asked when will the project finish?

He asked when the project would finish.

Không dùng dấu chấm hỏi và không dùng 'will' trong câu tường thuật (lùi thành 'would').
