Phân từ làm tính từ là gì?

Hiện tại phân từ (V-ing) và quá khứ phân từ (V-ed/V₃) có thể đóng vai trò tính từ. V-ing mô tả thứ GÂY RA cảm giác hoặc THỰC HIỆN hành động (an interesting offer — lời đề nghị gây hứng thú); V-ed mô tả thứ CHỊU tác động hoặc CẢM THẤY (the interested buyer — người mua cảm thấy hứng thú). Chọn giữa cặp này là dạng câu đặc trưng của TOEIC Part 5.

Quy tắc

V-ing — nghĩa chủ động

the noun CAUSES the feeling / DOES the action: a promising result, the presiding judge

V-ed — nghĩa bị động

the noun RECEIVES the action / FEELS it: the attached file, the invited guests

Đứng trước danh từ

a growing market | a revised schedule

Đứng sau danh từ (mệnh đề rút gọn)

    Thứ gây ra cảm giác: Dùng V-ing: 'The training was exhausting.' Buổi đào tạo gây kiệt sức.

    Người hoặc vật cảm nhận, chịu tác động: Dùng V-ed: 'The exhausted staff went home.' Nhân viên là người cảm thấy.
  • •
    Mệnh đề quan hệ rút gọn: 'The candidates selected for interviews' = 'who were selected'; 'the company producing the parts' = 'which produces'.
  • •
    Cụm cố định trong thương mại: attached file, enclosed brochure, preferred supplier, leading provider, remaining balance, existing customers.
